Hi. Can anybody recommend software to capture video from the screen? I am on a PC, and I prefer something that is free or low-cost...
thanks,

WINK, very easy to use, and very powerful, most important thing: It's FREE :)
Here is the link: http://www.debugmode.com/wink/
Is that you were looking for, or something else ?

CamStudio is free and I would call a REAL screen capture app. Personally I dont like Wink at all--it feels and looks cheap to me.

There is also Techsmith's Camtasia.

cool, thanks :)
Wink 2 is out and it makes a sequenced .jpg as good as camtasia or anything else if you ask me. The real question is what you compress that sequence with and I just use QT-7pro with h-264 codec. No mess no fuss no hassle and it's only 30 bucks. Neither apple nor media player use the techsmith codec unless you download it and even though its very nice, you will probably not hit the largest audience with it.
Just my .02

Techsmith can output to many formats. I out put uncompressed at 10 FPS then use it in my video editing software. Edius Can play uncompressed.

i use Camstasia, it isnt free but it outputs to many formats.
camstudio is free but has no real editing, nice software though.

what is the easiest one to learn? Is there one where you simply just set your output format, click record, and go... ?

im unsure of the export formats though
camstasia has an editing suite, they are both made by techsmith.

NP JB as i recall camstudio is a one shot deal though due to lack of editing, so basically rehearse the tututorial several times before recording is my advice,
never tried Wink so cant post a comment on it :blush2:
canmstasia studio3 which is the version i use is pretty simple to use but has a whole bunch of editing suites that allow you to create menus, add sound all that sort of stuff,
both programs are pretty stable though.

I use Camtasia Studio, but the 3rd and 4th version have a big bug in the callout, and the tech support is not very efficient.
Except these two problems, the software is very powerful and interesting.

Thanks Thomas. what's a good file format to use, that most people can watch without any problems?
jonah
Mov (H264 or sorenson 3 codec) or Flash
